Online Course Design
Registered UK charity Urban MBA commissioned Shimeji Creatives to design and develop their 12-week entrepreneurship programme as an online course.
UrbanMBA teaches young people the fundamentals of entrepreneurship.
Students learn how to set clear goals, understand business cycles, learn problem solving and take a project from the idea stage to a full-fledged business.

The Journey Starts Here
In the UK alone an estimated 757,000 young people, 11% of the population aged 16 to 24, are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
The UrbanMBA vision is to create a world where no young person is lost or left aside.
The online course is an opportunity for UrbanMBA and founder Kofi Oppong to
impact youth globally, beyond the UK.
Our video course project, therefore, targets a global (English-speaking) audience.
At Shimeji Creatives, we create compelling and challenging course programmes
which inspire students of all ages to stay pro-active and become self-motivated
learners.
Educational Design
Shimeji Creatives designed the online learning experience with education in mind - adapting the proprietary and trademarked Urban MBA blended learning style where pop culture meets storytelling, and life and vocational skills are thaught alongside creativity and debate.
Online courses rely on a clear tone of voice and need to speak the students’ language.
For UrbanMBA we modelled the course on the personality of the instructor and on an already established and successful curriculum.
Video courses should be well structured to set expectations for learners. The course outline sets the foundation for individual chapters and modules.
We nurture accountability and continually aim at high completion rates.
Video Course Narrative
For Urban MBA, we developed an online learning programme offering a mix of
video content and practical learning by targeting a young audience.
Online training relies on multifaceted avenues of engagement compared to more traditional learning experiences, like the classroom.
Online courses speak to individuals and communities. Defining a target audience requires an understanding of their needs and wants.
At the end of the online course experience, trainees are equipped with knowledge and confidence to present their business and idea to a panel of judges and investors - just like on Dragons’ Den or Shark Tank.

Online Course Design
We have designed online courses and developed narrative frameworks based on books, podcasts, videos of classroom training, course handbooks and workbooks, market research, teacher notes and more.
While some speakers prefer complete scripts to bring course content to life, experienced educators with a solid grasp of their course material may relay the course without a full script -nevertheless following a set structure that defines content, rhythm, timing and language. We develop user personas based on audience surveys and in-depth research.
Animations and screencasts can be blended or used as an alternative to in-person videos.
Online courses do not need to depend on videos alone.
We often develop ad-hoc training material from online workbooks to digital quizzes and more.

Visual Storytelling
Whether you would like to design an online training around a personality, professional training certificate or classroom training programme, our validated process ensures long-lived success.
Our team and creative director may offer technical consultations for video shoots, from identifying the right frame and establishing a look and feel of the videos, to training speakers in content delivery.
Our psychological consultant may provide behavioural analysis and audience metrics to aid in course development.
